Artful photography is another offering of Making Wings
On this page are samples of the kinds of photos I enjoy taking for myself and clients. These are photos of people, places, and things that are artistic rather than ordinary. If you're looking for straight-forward, go to a traditional studio; if you're in the market for something with an "artist's eye," try
Making Wings.

I prowled the streets all day, feeling very strung-up and ready to pounce, determined to "trap" life--to preserve life in the act of living. HENRI CARTIER-BRESSON
The street is theater, admission free. Our clothing, faces, and gestures tell the stories of our lives--as individuals and as members of communities. The handheld camera--nearly as quick as the eye--is an ideal tool for observing the spectacle. HENRI CARTIER-BRESSON

ARTIST'S STATEMENT:
Photography is another way for me to experience the world around me, one that brings me much joy. Many of these photos become the basis for poems, stories, or drawings. As you look, I believe one principle thing emerges: Most of these "snap shots" show my love for the close-up detail. So often we rush through life, missing the whole world-in-miniature that lies at our very feet. Even on a vacation---while I may love the grand vista, it is the delicate mountain flower that might tell me much more about the real essence of a place. Even when I do play with filters and lighting, it is only to bring out some quality inherent to my subject. My photography probably says a lot about me as a creative person: In the middle of a voyage through the galaxy, I would want to pause for a moment to study the tiniest microbe, a microbe that has no idea that it's part of such a sweeping, dynamic machine. It's the "quarks" I love to study--and then broaden the view to see how those unseen, small players are truly integral parts of the bigger world. I find that comforting: That even little ol' me--even the pistil of the smallest flower--even the tiniest insect one can imagine--that all of that plays a necessary part in the dynamic, endless scheme of the Universe.
